The Tribe of Dan
"Dan will govern his people like any of the other of the tribes of Israel. May Dan be a snake on the road, a viper on the path, who bites the horse on the hock so that its rider falls off backwards! I long for your deliverance, Yahweh." (Genesis 49:16-18)
Blazon of Arms: Tenne seven serpents argent armed and langued sable in a bordure azure.
Jewel: Hyacinth
The Tribe of Dan was descended from the fifth son of Jacob and seventh in order of blessing. It occuped a small territory extending from the coast to the south of Joppa to Kiriath Jearim. Part of the tribe migrated north to Laish (Lechem), outside the present-day borders of the State of Israel. The tribe was carried off into exile by the Assyrians and disappeared from history.
