"Reuben, you are my first-born, my vigour and the first-fruit of my manhood, foremost in pride, foremost in strength, uncontrolled as water; you will not be foremost, for you climbed into your father's bed, and so defiled my couch, to my sorrow." (Genesis 49:3-4)

Blazon of Arms: Sanguine between two olive branches in pale a Menorah of the Temple and in base the word "Israel" in Hebrew characters argent.

Jewel: Sard

Named after the eldest son of Joseph the Tribe of Reuben displaced the Amorites, settling entirely to the east of the River Jordan on territory now belonging to the Hashemite Kingdom of the same name. The tribal lands contained Mount Nebo, the burial place of Moses, and were bordered in the west by the north-eastern shore of the Dead Sea. The tribe seceded from the House of David when the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah were separated and were taken into captivity by the Assyrians under Tiglathpileser, after which they disappeared from history.
