The Rose Crown of the Queen Mother
"Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman robed with the sun, standing on the moon, and on her head a crown of twelve stars." (Revelation 12:1-2)
This crown, a simple gold circlet set with twelve roses of red velvet each bearing in the centre a diamond cluster, represents the ancient office and dignity of the Queen Mother of Judah. She had no counterpart in the northern Kingdom of Israel after its schism from the House of David, since she - as the mother of the King and the widow of his predecessor - represents the permanence and stability of the Throne of David, a stability which the schismatic Kings never enjoyed.
